White man's skull has Australians scratching heads
The centuries-old skull of a white man found in Australia is raising questions about whether Captain James Cook really was the first European to land on the country's east coast.
The skull was found in northern New South Wales in late 2011, and police initially prepared themselves for a gruesome murder investigation.
But scientific testing revealed that not only was it much older than expected, but possibly belonged to a white man born around 1650, well before Englishman Cook reached the eastern seaboard on the Endeavour in 1770.
"The DNA determined the skull was a male," Detective Sergeant John Williamson told The Daily Telegraph....

Bar attendants and baristas might be popular with drinkers and coffee lovers but they had the 15th lowest taxable income ($37,928). That was less than hairdressers ($38,363), laundry workers ($39,185), service station attendants ($40,755) and waiters ($41,073).

POLICE investigating possible crocodile attack in far north Queensland
Officers are en-route to a site where fishing equipment has been found on a riverbank, but with no sign of the fisherman.
The area is a known crocodile habitat, but a police spokeswoman said details were still sketchy.
In the last near-fatal attack, Todd Bairstow, was lucky to survive after he was trapped in the jaws of a crocodile in March 2011.

Melbourne continues to lead Australia's population growth
Melbourne has again dominated Australia's population growth, adding 77,242 people in 2011-12 to reach mid-2012 with a population of almost 4.25 million.
New estimates released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show five of the eight municipalities recording the nation's biggest growth were in Melbourne - three in the outer northern and western suburbs, one in the south-east, and the city of Melbourne itself.
