Rare Snowstorm Hits Japan

The last time Tokyo received this much snow was in January 1998 when 12.6 inches (32 cm) of snow fell.

A strong storm moving up the eastern coastline of Japan brought a rare, heavy snowfall Saturday into early Sunday for areas that typically don't see much in the way of snow.Tokyo is a difficult place for snow due to the high peak of Mount Fuji, just to the west of the city. It blocks a lot of the storms moving in from the west, and most storms coming in from the south and east are too warm.Tokyo received 8.7 inches (22 cm) of snow from this storm, and some of the heaviest snowfall seen was in Matsumoto, where 19.2 inches (49 cm) of snow fell. The Japan Meteorological Agency has said this is the heaviest snowfall from one storm since a storm in January 1994.Three people died with this storm so far, and more than 500 people were injured.

Again! Massive fudging on global-warming temps

They’re manipulating the data.In this case, lowering the historical temperatures for years prior to 2000. Which makes the temperatures after that look like they’ve risen. Which makes it look like global warming.“

A newly uncovered and monumental calculating error in official U.S. government climate data shows beyond doubt that climate scientists unjustifiably added a whopping one degree of phantom warming to the official ‘raw’ temperature record,”

Brrrrr... Temperatures hit -41 in Swedish cold snap..

Residents living in far northern Sweden woke up to a temperature of -41.2 C on Sunday as the harsh winter continues to bite across the rest of the country.

The village of Karesuando, right at the very northern tip of Sweden, clocked the epic cold temperature during Sunday reports the Swedish weather agency SMHI. "It is also a seasonal record," said SMHI meteorologist Lars Unnerstad to the TT news agency. The recorded temperature of -41.2 was a record for that region which is right on the Finnish border. http://m.thelocal.se//20140119/temperatures-hit-41-in-swedish-cold-snap

Cool! 'Big chill' expected to stay until 2040...

Major cooling cycle could match 'Little Ice Age'

As the largest snowfall of the winter hits the eastern U.S., politicians and interest groups will claim the latest weather is proof of their position in the climate debate, but a prominent climatologist says this is nothing more than the latest development in a cooling cycle that started over a decade ago and could continue into 2040.

Climate-change activists regularly assert that volatile weather events are on the rise due to human activity that impacts our climate, while skeptics point to the snow and cold snaps as further proof the earth is not running a fever.

Dr. Tim Ball taught climatology for many years at the University of Winnipeg and is the author of the newly released book, “The Deliberate Corruption of Climate Science.” He told WND it’s foolhardy to draw conclusions on overall climate trends based on one weather system or even one winter, but he believes the harsher winter is part of a cooling cycle.

Climate Change Seen Behind Ancient Civilizations' Fall..

A cold, dry spell that lasted hundreds of years may have driven the collapse of Eastern Mediterranean civilizations in the 13th century BC, researchers in France said Wednesday. In the Late Bronze Age, powerful kingdoms spanned lands that are now Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, Syria, Turkey, Israel and the Palestinian territories, but they collapsed suddenly around 1200 BC.Archeologists have long debated the reasons behind their fall, often citing economic factors. But in the past few years, more research has come to light indicating that natural factors, including a wintry drought, may have dried up agriculture, caused famine and forced people into war. http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/94227

Russian scientists: Earth can expect a new ice age

“Everything on Earth is cyclical — a warm period is followed by a cold one, and vice versa. We are currently in a warm period. However, unlike past periods, it is advancing too quickly. Over the last 100 years, we have seen a drastic migration of animals and plants to the North.” Thus every year, trees are rising by about 1.5 feet toward the peaks of the northern mountains, and they are encroaching on the tundra.  http://m.rbth.ru/articles/2013/01/15/russia_launches_year_of_the_environment_21891.html

Claim: Global cooling, not warming, is Earth's coming threat

A global warming critic on Monday announced plans to release new data showing that the threat of rising global sea levels has peaked and that the Sun is entering a "hibernation" period that could bring colder weather.

Paper: Has global warming stopped? No - it’s just on pause...

Huge amounts of heat – equivalent to the power of 150 billion electric kettles – are being continuously absorbed by the deep ocean, which could explain why global warming has “paused” over the past 10 to 15 years, scientists have concluded in a series of reports to explain why the Earth’s rate of warming has slowed down.

US Democrate resolution warns climate change could push women to prostitution..

The resolution  from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and a dozen other Democrats, says the results of climate change include drought and reduced agricultural output. It says these changes can be particularly harmful for women.

More broadly, the resolution says climate change will hurt "marginalized" women, such as refugees, sexual minorities, adolescent girls, and women and girls with HIV. It also cites Hurricane Katrina as evidence of how climate change can affect women, noting that the storm displaced "over 83 percent of low-income, single mothers" in the region.
