Warning Gold Coast - Severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding

HEAVY RAIN WARNING GOLD COAST

For people in the Southeast Coast and parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.

Issued at 3:33 pm Thursday, 23 January 2014.

Severe thunderstorms may produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Dalby, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Kingaroy, Caboolture and Caloundra.

55mm of rain was reported at Toowoomba in 60 minutes.
25mm of rain was reported at Oakey in 10 minutes.
113km/h gust has been reported at Oakey at 3pm.

HEAVY RAIN WARNING GOLD COAST

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
