AN Australia Post survey completed by 3.5 million people has been linked to sophisticated phone scams.

Queensland's top fraud investigator has described such surveys as "sucker lists" as they can hand personal and financial details to criminals on a platter.

The Australian Crime Commission has found examples where scam syndicates have obtained as many as 200,000 profiles from a range of lists and then used them to fleece people of their life savings.
