A Queensland Police Union spokesman has put the city back to square one, announcing on international television that the Coast is the nation's crime capital, with a ''seedy underbelly''.

In a BBC documentary on Australia aired in the UK, Simon Tutt warns potential visitors to the Coast more and more innocent people are being caught in the crossfire of criminals, referring to a bikie shooting at Robina and features the notorious Finks Outlaw Motorcycle Club, who open the doors of their clubhouse for BBC's cameras, to promote their brand...

A BBC documentary has has described the Gold Coast as Australia's 'crime capital run by outlaw bikies', thereby tainting its appeal to UK tourists.

The three-part series, which aired on BBC 2 last night, has shown a very different image of our country than the one being marketed overseas by Tourism Australia.

While Tourism Australia spends roughly $60 million a year on advertising, a potential 62 million viewers in the UK saw a darker side of Australia in the documentary, which depicted the Gold Coast as a 'gangster's paradise'.

Part three of the documentary focused on Surfers Paradise and its resident bikie gang, the Finks.
